Commemorating 2-28: Memorials

In 1988 – the second year of the redress movement for victims of the 2-28 Incident, the 2-28 Peace Day Promotion Committee built the first 2-28 memorial cenotaph in Neihu despite heavy surveillance by the police. The site became a place for people to remember their forefathers and foremothers, and the redress movement eventually became a popular movement. Local governments bowed to public opinion, allowing both local governments and private groups to continue building cenotaphs, memorial parks, museums.

This exhibition area highlights 2-28 memorials and cenotaphs across Taiwan.
